Pallavi Krishnan is a leading exponent of Mohiniyattam, acclaimed for her versatility as a performer, choreographer and trainer.   She is also known for her tremendous efforts to promote and preserve this style of Indian classical dance as a living tradition. She is the only Indian dancer who is an alumnus of both Santiniketan (Viswa Bharati University) and Kerala Kalamandalam, two prestigious art academies of the country.

Initially Pallavi was trained in Kathakali and Mohiniyattam under Guru Kalamandalam Sanakaranarayanan at Santiniketan. Her passion for Mohiniyattam led her to advanced training at Kerala Kalamandalam.

She continued her training under the guidance of Guru Bharati Shivaji (under the Scholarship of the Union Ministry of Culture), Guru Kalamandalam Kshemavati and Guru Kalamandalam Sughandhi. She was awarded both the Junior and Senior Fellowships of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to popularize Mohiniyattam by choreographing new items set to Sopana Sangeetam, the temple music tradition of Kerala.   Subsequently she earned MA (Mohiniyattam) from Kerala Kalamandalam.

Pallavi has performed and conducted Mohiniyattam residencies extensively in India and abroad in countries such as Australia, Canada, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, UK, China and Gulf countries at leading centres / international dance festivals. Additionally she was also the Cultural Ambassador designated by the ICCR and Indian High Commission, Dhaka, to popularize Mohiniyattam in Bangladesh.

As an artiste, Pallavi has developed a style marked by creativity in her performance. She is equally at ease in exhibiting both adavu and abhinaya.  The quality and perfection of year’s long intensive institutional training is highly discernible in every bit of her movements and stage portrayals that make her amazingly distinctive from her contemporaries, opines critics and dance scholars of the land.
This has made her the most sought after Mohiniyattam performer and a trendsetter for many young dancers the world over, motivating them to take up this art form professionally.
In addition to her prowess as a soloist, her thematic group choreographies include ‘The Seasons’, that blend the Sopana Sangeetam tradition of Kerala and the Rabindra Sangeet of West Bengal for the verses adapted from Kalidas’ Ritusamhar and Rabindranath Tagore’s Rituranga; Salabhanjika (The Heart of a Woman) based on feminine feelings in the backdrop of an emotional bondage between the sculptor and sculpture; and Panchabootha (The Five Eternal Elements of the Nature) based on Taittiriya Upanishad  and Soundryalahari by Sankaracharya. It earned rave reviews from veteran dance critics.

Among other honours, she is the recipient of the Award of the Kerala State’s Sangeeta Nataka Aademi for Mohiniyattam – 2008.

Since 1994, she is the Artistic Director of Lasya Akademi of Mohiniyattam, a centre for the promotion and professional training in Mohiniyattam, at Trichur (Kerala) with a branch in Kolkata (West Bengal). She is grooming a good number of talented young dancers in the art of Mohiniyattam through her institution. Students from abroad also come to Lasya Akademi for professional training in the art of Mohiniyattam.

Pallavi is also the curator of Lasyotsavam, one of the leading classical dance festivals of Kerala.
